BANDARAYA — Concerns over journalistic integrity and originality are combining within the MYSverse media landscape, as questions grow over whether some outlets are relying too heavily on copying rather than producing independent reporting.
In a recent internal review, Aurora Television’s Editorial Board identified cases where articles published by certain media organisations appeared to closely mirror or replicate content from others, raising questions about ethical standards in news production.
With more than 15 media outlets now active in MYSverse, observers note that competition has intensified. However, certain people argued that this growth has also led to a decline in originality, with some journalists allegedly adopting a “copy-and-paste” approach in an effort to gain visibility.
The issue is, where is the line between inspiration and plagiarism? While drawing from existing coverage is a common journalistic practice, failing to properly attribute sources or producing near-identical content may constitute ethical violations.
Authorities have taken note of the trend. The MYSverse Communications and Multimedia Commission has indicated that it is aware of such practices and warned that unauthorised copying of content may breach legal and regulatory standards.
